I have gotten several E mails and comments wanting to know why a person would want to live in a barn so I will shed some more light on the subject.

In 2005 we bought 10 acres so my one horse at the time would have somewhere safe and controllable to be. We stabled her for almost 2 years and the nightmare stories I could tell ya.
we also had 2 donkeys living in our backyard here in town.

We bought the house in town in 2003 not knowing the nightmares of stabling a horse. We have talked about moving out to the farm since we got it. actually, when we bought it it was just grassland. We put up a fence, a barn -the same barn 3 times (winds are hell out here) and we just want to be out there with our babies.

We got water last year and Electric this past fall so now, Critter is working on the barn where we will live on one side and the stalls on the other.

A big plus for living in a barn is property tax is way cheaper.

We won't have a mortgage

We will only have utilities to pay

Now at the age of 41 with no mortgage and living next to my babies, I think is the way to go.

We are hoping to be out of the Main St. house and on the farm by Oct 09

Now, you are asking "Why not pay someone to build the barn?". because, this barn while being made from new and reclaimed materials will come with no sort of loan or payment plan.

We are doing it slow and piece by piece as to avoid any type of loan.

The big expense we are looking at is a septic system 7,000.00 basically a box buried in the ground where the poop goes the it is broken down in water form and that waters the yard. Gross Huh? but that's what they are and we have to have one if I want to avoid using the truck stop bathroom. Yes, We live by a truck stop and rest area. (middle of Nowhere)

anyway that's the deal on the barn I hope that helps clear things up.

The picture is of the perfect floor.I think it will look great! Picking a front door is harder than I thought it would be.

  1. I dont know if this matters. But Cuz, If you want to know what it's like to live with someone in less than 50 sq feet 24/7. Drop me a line. You will have about 650 more sq ft, so it wont really equate. Just sayin.

  2. A small paid-for home is great! Size doesn't matter... at least that is what my wife tells me. LOL. We are talkin' about the size of the barn, aren't we?
