What does that ole saying mean?
The other day I was at the farm watering trees and this truck pulls in the drive and a man pops out of his Dodge ( Of, course) and says "Howdy"
I go walkin over to the fence and he says he is just wonderin' just what are we building and I go into the whole spiel about how my hubby had this idea and soon I will be leaving my worldly possessions and a 1900 sq ft house behind to be Country Folk.
The conversation then turns and he asks "Do you want a horse? " Now, this is where I think the phrase about the gift horse comes in.
Me and the hubby go down to his farm about half a mile as the crow flies (Country Folk lingo) The man proceeds to show us a gorgeous bit of horse flesh in the shade of chestnut (a shade of red) well this thing was not broke, never been in a trailer and was in need of a serious pedicure. He was so sweet though. All the sudden I hear the hubby say "Well take him" I about crapped!
So we end up getting this very well bred horse that we don't need and don't have the money or time to put in him so, I call up my horsey buddy and ask her if she wants a horse and of course she says "Yes" that seems to be the standard answer when one is asked about a free horse so anyway, My friend and I and her little sidekick go to the farm the next afternoon the get the wild thing in the trailer for the 40 mile ride to his new home. I will tell ya my part of the job was being no where near him or those hind legs while trying to get him in the trailer. I self appointed me a job of standing there with the cell phone ready to call in the air ambulance when he decides he has other ideas about getting in the box on wheels. long story short.. I know to late...
He found his new home. Horsey friend did not tell her spouse there would be an addition to the ranch and Horsey friend ratted me out and said I gave her the horse and hubby is not happy but I know a very happy horsey mom and sidekick and Hubby is all puff and will fall in love with yet another horse.
As for the Critter he wants a buckskin (tan looking kind of horse) and when we get settled out at the farm and have a few bills less, Critter will have himself a buckskin that he will love even more.
Will your friend give him back once he's broken in? Pictures, please!
ReplyDeleteSusan, No we wont get him back I just gave him to her. We already have the 3 and by nexy year we will replace my older horse CD since we have retired him. I couldn't take a pic of him because it was hard enough to give him up.
ReplyDeleteHi Scrappy Doo,
ReplyDeleteI was out of town playing in the dirt (also known as farming) and didn't have access to a computer and missed posting.
Scrappy, I have another condition that you can identify with. It is like shortness of breath and I don't know the medical name for it: Shortness of Height. You and I both suffer from this condition and I think we see eye-to-eye on this(pardon the pun). I think it is caused by a lack of garlic as a child, but I have no scientific proof. LOL.
Like the guy on TV says: "That's my two cents worth, spend it wisely".
Garlic Man
Garlic Man,

I earned the Honest scrap but had to 'borrow' the actual trophy...Guess they call it scrap for a reason...:)

Scrappy
Hi Scrappy,
ReplyDeleteI can understand wanting a buckskin. My sister has a buckskin named Drifter. He looks more grulla than a buckskin though. He changes colors with the seasons. I am glad you found the "free horse" a good home! Thanks for visting our blog. I really like following yours as well!
