Ok. There previous was meant to direct ya to a most funny blog and I never thought that some would ask why I don't get near the "bird" so I shall explain.
Please don't tell me I am superstitious or that it is silly. It is a personal thing and I just feel that I sleep better at night not touching the stuff.
As you recall, My sister Lisa was murdered in May of 96 it was at 7am in the morning. Well, the neighborhood is small and word got out fast and people started showing up at the house early. My brother and I were sitting at the table and I told him that "This means people will bring food such as Chicken to the house"
I know people do this as a comfort to the family in mourning but, no sooner had I got the words out of my mouth the doorbell rings and it is the neighbor with CHICKEN.
It was almost like it made it real at that point. WE were the mourning family in need of comfort. It was just to real.
I have not ate chicken knowingly since that day.
I was at El Chico a few years later and the waiter brought me the wrong food and I took a bite and it was CHICKEN! I spit it out and later that night my dog died.
A co-worker made fun of me about all this and after she went and got chicken and ate it at my desk making fun of me the whole time.. Her Aunt died that afternoon.
The day my Father died my husband was cooking chicken in the house.
(I had asked him not to cook it in the house and that day I told him to go ahead)
Now, I know you are thinking this is silly but, I dearly love those in my life and I refuse to touch the stuff. and there is nothing worse than when someone thinks it's funny to trick me and sneak things like chicken broth in my food.
So there ya go. the whole not eating chicken story
A blurb about The Critter and I. Our horse paradise of 10 acres in a very small town. The Struggles and Triumps of everyday life, of our farm equipment (that was state of the art during the FDR administration) along with all the amazing things Critter can build. and all the things that the horses , cats and dog can do to bring joy and insanity to our lives. Two adults from the city into the country. Living in a barn that Critter built all by himself! and my ramblings :-)

Chicken
Did you know that I will not eat anything that has chicken in it?
Yes, including fried, baked, BBQ or what ever you can dream up. I have not touched the stuff since May 96.
Critter loves the bird,especially fried.
He wants to have them at the Farm but, sadly that will be over my dead body. I know, go ahead and think I am not flexible or open minded but, I have very strong convictions on the Chicken and I am more stubborn than my donkey on this subject.
Anyway, I found a great blog and thought I would clue you in, y'all can thank me later. Go here http://rhodeislandread.blogspot.com/ to laugh, and laugh and laugh some more :-) by the way, this is about a close as I get to a chicken.
Have a great week!

Flooring and kids

I am loving this flooring! We have to put the doors in before we can do the base moulding but it is really coming together pretty fast.
I am still not decided on the colors. I am thinking neutral and creams. I don't know. I need help!
I finally bought a new camera :-) We got a Nikon and I am still working on the 7000 page manual but, I am learning :) The kids are loving this time of year with all the green.
Have a great night

Critter has been working hard
Critter started putting the floor down today. I can't wait to see it all done.
Critter had to dig a 4ft trench all the way from our barn, across our property and about 20 ft. onto the next property. The toy Critter had could not get through the limestone rock so, for close to a million dollars we had to to get this guy and his toy out there. The end result of all this digging is power! We just need Oncor to come turn us on and then there shall light.

Feeling helpless
This is a repost from last yr. My friend is in dire straits right now. I can't seem to focus on much more right now other than them and my job. I have no funny stories tonight or pictures of the barn progress. I will tell ya Critter has been amazing and understanding. I have not been to the farm much lately.
This post is about something that has been weighing on my mind for awhile and it has nothing to do with the Critter or the horses, barn or any of those things.
This is about life. I should tell you I have a full time job in accounting and I have been at my current place for 3 years. When I accepted this job I never knew I would find myself in the situation I am in. I have found myself in a place where I see my bosses as friends. One of my friends is in dire straights and I feel helpless. I see this man as a role model. I have so much admiration for him I can't begin to tell you. This is a man that faced situations that most people would have given up or drown in their own self pity. I love hearing his stories of all his travels around the world. I just really enjoy talking to him and hearing his views on life. He is a man that you are better off for having met him. This is a man that is in the battle for his life due to that dreaded of most words-Cancer. I am not his family but I know them. I do not know him as well as others. I have only known him a short time. I have only known him during work hours of the week. This is a man that to me we all can learn a lesson from. A man to me that is fair and very giving, wise and strong but will melt you heart when you see this man with his puppy. This is a man that is amazing! This man has been in a wheelchair for as long as I have been alive but has never stopped. He has traveled the world, been a civic leader, athlete and so much more. Its strange how the more I got to know him the wheelchair wasn't something I saw. I think that people know others on so many different levels that one person can be described by others in completely different ways. My description of him is of a insightful, kind, strong, intelligent, giving, humorous, hardworking, admirable and unstoppable!!!!!!
In talking to him lately I see a vulnerability in him. His seems so weak. I have never seen before and it make me so scared for him. His doctors have given him a timeline. He has fought this with such courage and I want to believe that he will be here for many years to come and this is my prayer for him and his family.
What do you say to someone who is facing this kind of illness? How can you let them know that if they need something, anything that all they have to do is ask? How do you let them know that they have made a profound impact on you? How do you let them know that you will be forever grateful for having known them?

Pickled Duck and plastic eggs
I had the best time today. I got some cool prizes. I cheated Yes, I tried to cheat at every game. Yes, I kept getting caught but no matter because I had ALOT of fun. The best part I must say was when Pickles appeared as the Easter Duck!!!!

The Pickle A.K.A. Easter Duck my brother and sister and the one and only Scrappy! My brother claims I hip checked him during the egg hunt. Do you really think I would do such a thing?

The family that egg hunts together, stays together.

We appear to travel in packs while hunting eggs. The prize egg went to my niece A $100.00 gift card to wonderful resturant. I love how my great nephew, the only child is directing the adults. He is so cute

Yes, this would be Scrappy cutting of a beloved family member to get to the finish line

There were squabbles as to how there was rampant cheating during the egg race. Critter crossed the finish line first but, was accused of playing it shady. The $25.00 gift card went to the sis-n-law as we all agreed she played straight.

Well time for me to ride out of here. Hope you had a most blessed Easter

Emails between the Family re: Easter dinner and Egg Hunt and Bloodshed!
I should explain first- Rae is my sis and she usually heads up the Easter Plans. Rae and Mom live together so, when we plan family functions we always count Rae and Mom as a couple and they tend to get sensitive when referred to as a couple. We are discussing the adult Easter Egg Hunt in which a valid Health Insurance card is required!
So the players in the Email are :
Rae- My sis Age Over 40 and wayyyyyy older than me.
Amber-My niece Age 28??
JOE- Amber's Hubby
Debbie-Sister n law Age over 40
Ben- Nephew age 22
Jay- Ben's son and the only toddler
And of course any ref to Mom or MiMi would be Pickles
Rae-------
Ok, the meal at Mom's 3:30 I have ordered a spiral honey baked ham and we will have the 2nd maybe 3rd annual Adult/Children egg hunt bring your basket or bag and 2 eggs to contribute to the hunt.
Please do a reply to all so we know what everyone is bringing and who is coming.
My thoughts are ~Bread, Desserts, 2 sides and maybe a veggie/cheese tray for snacking
Tammy is sending~ for sure that a garden salad, fruit salad, and glazed mini carrots with Ben and jay on Sunday
Scrappy----
I will bring what ever yall tell me to but, more importantly WHAT R THE PRIZES?????????????????????????????????
Rae-----
Nothing major gift card, bags , cash , office supplies. I will have the rules printed out prior to the games. Do you want to bring the rolls or bread how about that bread bowl dip you make. (This is one of the three things I know how to make. )
Amber----
NO NO we do not know the prizes until we get the eggs
Scrappy-------
CASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rules???? Who needs rules????????? Yall know the drill I WIN or if by some travesty I lose yall get to hear me whine
I will bring the bread bowl dip thingy
Amber,
Please! knowing the prizes let's me know how much of yall's blood will be spilled
Rae,
Since everyone has had some health issues this year, do you want me to bring wheelchairs and walkers for yall?? LOL!!!!!! Ya know, I mean that with all the love in my heart.
Debbie-----
I think we should have the contest split up in to the older generation/handicap set – and the younger, faster generation – that seems fair
Rae-------
Ha Ha I have my own crutches Debbie make sure you bring any additional items that maybe used as "OOPS you tripped over my........"
Yes I have a few snail pace games planned but please remember this is all for the memories. Debbie don't forget your camera so we can get the film developed in the dark room. You know we love you
We will have one game that will be a lot of fun for couples or 2 people to team up as a pair. I know my partner is MOM... I have been told (Rae loves it when we call them a couple)
Amber----
You are soooo funny. Hey it's been 4 weeks I am 100% I am ready to race you sista (Amber just had surgery. She is gonna lose bad!!!) Rae,Ill give you Joe if you want and Ill take Meme really I don't mind.
Rae----
No thanks, she gives me a handicap head start and I know no one would take the 1st place from their own Mom, Grandma, Meme right.....
Debbie-----
Want to bet???????
Rae--------
OK really we have to stop my boss asked me who and why I keep laughing out loud. If this is any indication I think I should just cancel the games it is getting a little competitive. Who said Easter was for kids??
We are not elderly we are like wine better with age. I'm gonna take a swing at both of you with my cane then have Debbie run over your foot with her wheelchair

Heads on Sticks, Meeting Deb, Walking a million miles and a great day with my Critter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We headed south to Warrenton at 6am this morning on some great advice from Deb at Talking Trash and we were blown away!! Antiques and booths of all kinds for MILES Yes, MILES :-) We made it to Zapp Hall around 9:30 this morning and left late evening. We had a so much fun.
Doll heads on sticks, made into lamps, arms and legs looking for torsos, body parts everywhere Too funny and creepy all at the same time

LOOK!!!!!! Deb from Talking Trash. I had the honor of meeting her and Cat Daddy. She is so sweet. She had the most perfect piece for my bathroom but Critter said "4inches to long"
Isn't that always the problem ? We got some great ideas and have decided that Critter will be building our bathroom vanity.
(I must be squinting my eyes in this pic. or Critter was waiting till I looked really goofy, before snapping the pic. I would use another but, he only took one)
I think that the fake lady laying up in the bench apparently, having had to much wine looks nothing like Pickles.
Here is Critter telling a well endowed petite plastic woman, that she has nothing on his Scrappy
Critter and this guy were swapping tuna casserole recipes (I don't think the guy was impressed with Critters take on tuna)

As you can see Critter spent the day associating with some strange kinda folks. We ate so much food it was unreal. We found a million kitchen tables we liked but, could not decide on one.

If I was not being forced to downsize we would have brought a truckload home.
We will be returning in the fall.
If you are from the parts and have been to Canton, Texas on First Monday let me tell ya - it is nothing compared to whats going on down south this week.
Have a good night yall !!!

Seems I have become an adult
So, I just fired off a Letter to The Editor of my local online newspaper regarding the plans that the cemetery that is located right off my property line in town is proposing.
I have requested to speak at the next city council meeting and express my desire not to have certain things done.
When did I become an adult and what if I still want to be a kid????

Titanic and the bathroom
We put the darker outlet covers on. I think they look better than the lighter one
Here is the picture that is giving me heck. I love the picture. It has a near black frame with gold trim. The blue is slightly lighter than navy with the inset pictures in black and white.
Washer and dryer go where the ladder is along with some cabinets with drawers One drawer will pull out and contain the ironing board. The closet will have bifold doors
Shower to left of the window Linen closet to the right of the window The sink will go in front of Critter the toilet and shower also go on this side.
Any suggestions for paint color other than white? It is such a small room that I figured white would help keep it from feeling like a shoe box. Also, I am trying to figure out if the molding should be the same dark brown like the rest of the house or should I go white?
